DUBAI – A court in Dubai has ruled in favour of a Filipino man who suffered severe injuries after he jumped off a balcony to escape two men who wanted to rape him.
The Yemeni and Sudanese attackers, both 19, were convicted of attempted rape and sentenced to one year in jail. They were also ordered to pay Dh21,000 in compensation to the victim.
They will be deported after serving their sentence, the Dubai Criminal Court ruled.
According to court records, the 41-year-old Filipino was invited to the Al Qusais home of the men who offered to help him secure a job.
While in the living room, the men attempted to rape him at knifepoint. He was able to flee and had jumped off the balcony of the apartment on the first floor.
“I ran and jumped off the balcony. There was no other way to escape,” the Filipino told the court.
He broke his back, arms and leg after the fall during the May 14 incident, records showed. GAD/Expat Media
