DUBAI – A 40-year-old Filipino clerk survived after jumping out of a building in Dubai to escape two young men who tried to rape him.
The men, Yemeni and Sudanese students, were arrested and put on trial for attempted rape.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge when they appeared at the Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday (August 7).
The court heard that the duo, 19, had threatened the Filipino at knifepoint after the Yemeni lured him into his apartment with a promise of helping him find a job.
Once inside his residence in Al Ghusais, the Yemeni allegedly asked the Filipino for sex, but the latter refused.
The Sudanese student also came and tried to undress the Filipino, who then jumped out of the window from the apartment on the first floor of the building.
“I felt scared when they threatened me with a knife … I took them by surprise and jumped out of the window without looking at the landing spot,” the Filipino testified.
He sustained injuries in his arms, legs and back but survived the fall.
The building’s Indian watchman called for an ambulance and reported the incident to the police. JHQ/Expat Media
