DUBAI – Traffic is expected to build up in and around Dubai for New Year’s Eve celebrations in the emirate, and authorities have set up plans to manage traffic flow.

Where to watch fireworks and quick traffic guide

Here are 8 important things you need to know:


1. Which roads to avoid

Certain roads, particularly those near the Burj Khalifa, will be closed to motorists at specific times. Check out when they will be closed:

Al Asayel Street: 4pm

Al Sukuk Street: 8pm

Al Sa’ada/Happiness Street: 6pm

Emirates Towers intersection: 8pm

Financial Center Street: 8pm

Intersection of Al Murooj Rotana toward Burj Khalifa/tunnel: 6pm

Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard: 5pm to 8pm or once parking area is full

Oud Metha Street to Financial Centre Street: 4pm

2. Dubai Metro station closure

Burj Khalifa Station: 10pm

3. Dubai Metro station timings

Red Line: 5am until midnight

Green Line: 5:30am until midnight

4.  How to cross Sheikh Zayed Road on foot

Once roads are closed, pedestrians can cross Sheikh Zayed Road through the Burj Khalifa Metro Station and Business Bay Metro Station.

5. Free rides on public buses

The RTA is deploying 170 public buses to give free rides for commuters from midnight to 4am. Remember these pick up points and routes:

Burj Khalifa Metro Station to Jafliya Station

Burj Khalifa Metro Station to Mankhool Prayer yard

Burj Khalifa Metro Station to Noor Islamic Bank Metro Station

Financial Centre Street to Al Wasl Club parking lots

Financial Centre Street to Jafliya Station parking lots

Financial Centre Street to Deira City Center

Financial Centre Street to Al Mankhool Prayer yard

Dubai Water Canal to Noor Islamic Bank Metro Station

6. 4,000 additional parking slots

The RTA has created 4,000 additional parking slots for the public in areas near Burj Khalifa and other exhibition sites. Here’s where you can get more parking slots:

Al Wasl Club: 1,000 parking slots

Dubai Water Canal: 1,000 parking slots

Eid Musalla t Mankhool: 1,500 parking slots

General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, Al Jafiliya: 500 parking slots

7. Dubai Water Canal pedestrian bridges to be closed

Pedestrian bridges on the Dubai Water Canal and elevators will be closed to the public. The pedestrian walkway on Sheikh Zayed Road above the Water Canal will also be closed.

8. Hotline for traffic inquiries

The RTA urges motorists and commuters to use alternative roads in the run-up to New Year’s Eve. For inquiries on traffic plans in Dubai, the public can call toll free number 8009090.
