DUBAI – A 41-year-old hiker from Dubai died after he dived into a wadi south of Muscat in Oman, according to the Royal Oman Police.
Kenyan national Melvyn Munyua hit his head on a rock when he dived into Wadi Al Arbeieen on Saturday. His body was retrieved by helicopter.
“The accident took place in a very rugged area and it was very difficult for the helicopter to find a suitable place to land so it took some time to reach the injured man,” said Major Mohammed Al Hashami of the Royal Oman Police.
Al Hashami said that the victim was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead due to severe head injuries.
Munyua was a resident of Discovery Gardens in Dubai. He was an avid hiker and regularly goes on hiking trips in and around the UAE. He recently went on a trip to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. ICA/Expat Media
