DUBAI – Ahead of her latest gig in Dubai in five years, actress Maui Taylor on Thursday (April 4) revealed in an exclusive interview with Expatmedia.net about her “traumatic” experience in the emirate in 2014.
The former Viva Hot Babes star was with fellow actress Katya Santos for a series of gigs in Dubai in March that year when their concert producer allegedly left them without paying their fees, food, or flights home.
According to Philippine media reports, the concert producer also allegedly duped other stars, including Gerald Santos and Glaiza De Castro, in a similar scam.
“Napakulong namin yung guy [We were able to have the guy put in prison],” Maui revealed to Expatmedia.net, adding that the concert producer has since been freed.
Maui said she is still happy with the outcome, and that at least “people are aware of what happened to us here.” She also said she was thankful to Filipino expatriates who gave her and Katya food and money while they were stranded in Dubai.
The actress said, however, that her “traumatic” experience in 2014 was the reason why she declined several offers to perform here.
“I kept on saying no because I just really had a bad, bad experience,” she said, adding that for her upcoming event in the UAE beginning on Friday (April 5), she has brought along her mother as her “bodyguard”.
Maui will be performing at Avenue Hotel in Dubai on April 5, Sheraton Khalidiya in Abu Dhabi on April 6, and Fortune Royal Hotel in Fujairah on April 7.
The actress said she is optimistic that her gigs this time “is going to be different”. ICA/Expat Media
