DUBAI – A housemaid has been found guilty of causing a baby boy to suffocate to death in Fujairah, according to a newspaper report.
The housemaid was with the baby and his 3-year-old sibling in their home in the emirate when the incident occurred, according to Al Khaleej.
The woman was doing her usual chores when an air-conditioner on the second floor of the villa caught fire, which spread rapidly in the villa.
She was unable to rescue the 7-month-old baby from the room where she left him. She and the boy’s sibling, however, were able to escape the fire.
The housemaid was arrested after a police investigation. She was taken to court where she was found not guilty of causing the baby’s death.
The public prosecution, however, appealed the ruling and won their appeal. The appeals court found the woman guilty. GAD/Expat Media
