DUBAI – The title of World Capital of Sports will be awarded in 2019 and Abu Dhabi is hoping that it will be awarded to the emirate.
The UAE capital will face off against Taipei in Taiwan for the title, which will be handed out by the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation next year.
The emirate has four big sports facilities: Abu Dhabi Golf Club, Al Forsan Sports Resort, Yas Arena and Zayed Sports City.
Abu Dhabi is positioned to win the title with three of its annual sporting events: Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Mubadala World Tennis Championship and Abu Dhabi Golf Championship.
It is also hosting the Fifa Club World Cup for the second straight year in December, and will stage next year’s AFC Asian Cup football tournament. GAD/Expat Media
