MANILA – Nine Filipino fishermen were arrested by Eritrean coast guard for fishing in the country’s territorial waters.
The fishermen, who came from Saudi Arabia, were placed in Eritrean custody.
Alexander Estomo, Philippine Vice Consul in Jeddah, confirmed that the fishermen crossed the maritime boundary of the North African nation.
Estomo said the Philippine Embassy in Cairo will coordinate with the Eritrean government to secure the fishermen’s release. CLM/Expat Media
