DUBAI – Posts on social media about Emirates giving away 500 free plane tickets are fake, the Dubai-based airline warned.
An Emirates spokesperson said that it only runs competitions on its official social media accounts.
“Emirates is aware of the fact that there are online competitions and social media posts, circulating regarding ticket giveaways for the new year. This is not an official competition and we advise people to exercise caution. Genuine competitions are only hosted on our official social media accounts which are marked with a blue tick,” according to Emirates.
Fraudsters have circulated social media posts about a purported competition to win Emirates plane tickets to celebrate the new year. It is believed that the posts are designed to allow hackers access to victims’ devices or obtain their personal or financial information.
In 2017, a fake website also victimized UAE residents by offering people the chance to win two Emirates airline tickets in exchange for filling up a survey. GAD/Expat Media
