3 Sharjah competitions for Filipinos and 4 ways to win prizes

 

DUBAI – Filipinos who love to sing, dance, play musical instruments or just simply love to show up will have four reasons to celebrate on May 3.

The first Sharjah Filipino Labor Day Festival will be held at Sharjah Indian School to celebrate tolerance and culture with one of the UAE’s biggest communities -Filipinos.

The day-long event, a project of the Sharjah Labour Standards Development Authority, will open at 9am and will feature dance and music competitions, an awareness campaign on labour laws, free medical and dental camp, job fair, bazaar and entertainment.

Attend the event

Visitors will be given coupons to fill out so they can win mystery prizes in a draw that will be held in the afternoon.

OPM Singing Sensation

If you love singing, then the stage is yours at the OPM Singing Sensation, one of the highlights of the festival.

The singing competition is open to all Filipino residents in the UAE who will battle for the Dh3,000 top prize and other cash prizes in a showdown of original Pilipino music (OPM). Auditions will be held on April 12. More details will be announced on the Expat Media Facebook page soon.

Mechanics:

1. Must be a resident of the UAE.
2. Male or Female Filipino citizens.
3. Open to professional and non-professional singers.
4. Songs must be original Pilipino music.
5. Song material must be downloaded on USB.
6. Contender must not be champion of any reality TV competitions.

Hip Hop Dance Contest

Gather your crew for this competition in Sharjah that is surely going to open doors for local talents to be spotted.

The dance contest is open to groups of at least five people who can raise the roof with out-of-this-world dance moves of not more than five minutes.

Mechanics:

1. Must be a resident of the UAE.
2. Male or Female Filipino citizens.
3. Open to professional and non-professional dancers.
4. Group must consist of at least 5 members but not more than 10.
5. Dance material must be downloaded on USB.
6. Contenders must not be champions of any reality TV competitions.
7. Open for all ages.
8. Dance performance should not exceed 5 minutes.

Battle of the Bands

Another highlight of the Sharjah Filipino Labor Day Festival is the Battle of the Bands, which is going to pit the UAE’s best Filipino local bands in a competition for the top prize.

The competition is open to Filipino bands composed of five members or more, with performances not exceeding 15 minutes. Auditions will be held on April 12.

Mechanics:

1. Must be a resident of the UAE.
2. Male or Female Filipino citizens.
3. Open to professional and non-professional bands.
4. Group must consist of at least 5 members but not more than 10.
5. Band must not be champion of any reality TV competitions.
6. Open for all ages.
7. Performance should not exceed 15 minutes (up to 3 songs)
8. Songs may be original compositions or cover.
