DUBAI – Hundreds of dragon boat athletes converged in Ras Al Khaimah on Friday (April 27) for the Dragon Boat Festival.
The two-day event is being held by the creek until 5pm on Friday and from 11am to 5pm on Saturday.
Organisers expect a turnout of more than 1,500 people as athletes battle it out in two days of “intense racing that will fill the creek with heart”.
As many as 60 teams will paddle for glory at the annual water-racing extravaganza, being held across the 1km stretch of the Ras Al Khaimah creek.
Hilton Garden Inn Ras Al Khaimah is hosting the event with up to 1,000 racers taking part on the adjacent creek; the city’s natural waterways with abundant mangroves.
Teams for the event will consist of up to 20 people and bring together corporate, university, schools and community groups from across the UAE.
Each team is supplied with a dragon boat, all necessary equipment and two hour-long training sessions with a seasoned expert.
Visitors who want an overnight stay in the emirate can book specially-priced rooms at Hilton Garden Inn Ras Al Khaimah. GAD/Expat Media
