DUBAI – The UAE Cabinet has approved a draft law on granting entry visas to transit passengers in all UAE airports.
The announcement made on Sunday means that when the law is approved, transit passengers will be able to go out of the airport for a quick tour of the emirates.
The transit permit rule for all passengers is not in force yet, but it is expected to be in effect soon.
Currently, there are more than 50 nationalities eligible for visa on arrival at UAE airports. Majority of passengers waiting for their connecting flights will need to wait at the airport’s transit lounge.
Across the UAE, around 70 percent of total passengers who passed through UAE airports last year were transit passengers.
The new policy aims to boost the country’s tourism industry and enhance transit visa procedures.
The new policy will be prepared by a group led by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship to set procedures for transit visa applications and to determine visa fees. GAD/Expat Media
