ABU DHABI – Police have arrested an Asian man for growing marijuana saplings in his home in Abu Dhabi.
Police raided the man’s home following a tipoff, said Colonel Taher Ghareeb Al Dhahiri, director of the directorate of Drug Control in the Criminal Security Sector.
Police seized from his possession a marijuana plant grown in a plastic container, as well as two packets of marijuana.
The suspect claimed to police that he was not aware that growing marijuana is a criminal offence in the country.
He said that he planted marijuana as an experiment. He also admitted that he planned on expanding his marijuana cultivation.
His case has been referred to the public prosecution. GAD/Expat Media
