DUBAI – A 26-year-old Nigerian man has been jailed for hitting a policeman with a brick when the latter removed cards advertising massage services in International City.
The policeman was part of a Dubai Police clean-up campaign in the Russia cluster of International City and was removing business cards stuck on car windshields.
The Nigerian, a construction worker, then hit the policeman on the head with a brick.
“We were directed by our superiors to remove and collect cards posted on windshields since it has become a growing menace. When I removed a number of cards, the defendant came towards me. While I continued removing the cards, he took me by surprise and pounded my head with a brick,” the policeman testified in court.
His partner rushed to his rescue and restrained the Nigerian attacker. The injured policeman was taken to the hospital for treatment.
On Monday, the Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the Nigerian of resisting arrest and assault. The Nigerian pleaded guilty to the charges. He was sentenced to jail for three months, following which, he will be deported. DAJ/Expat Media.
