DUBAI – Filipino singer KZ Tandingan emerged as winner in the Singer 2018 competition in China, beating Jessie J to claim the top spot for the first time in the weekly competition.
Tandingan was in Dubai for a concert in November last year.
In Singer, Tandingan wowed the audience and judges with her unique and electrifying rendition of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”, using a mix of eletronica, hip hop and even Filipino rap.
Jessie finished in second place for the second week in a row in in the weekly contest determined by audience vote. She finished top in the contest’s first three weeks.
The “Price Tag” hitmaker sang “Ain’t Nobody”, and was later seen applauding the Filipina singer.
After the contest, the two were seen exchanging a long hug in a viral video that Tandingan shared on her Facebook page.
“I’m not a competitor, I’m just your friend,” Jessie J told Tandingan.
Tandingan told Jessie J that the British star inspired her to sing again after having a problem with her vocal cords in high school.
“Who I am as an artist now, a big chunk of that is because of you,” said the 25-year-old X Factor Philippines winner.
