DUBAI – Popular Filipino festival Sinulog is coming back to the UAE in February, with plenty of activities in store for a day-long event, organisers said.
Sinulog is a cultural and religious festival from Cebu, Philippines and features a prayer dance to the child Jesus known as Santo Nino.
In Cebu, the festival is held every third Sunday of January and is believed to be the Philippines’ most popular festival, drawing more than one million people to Cebu City for street parades.
In Dubai, this year’s 6th Sinulog festival will be held on Febuary 16. The organiser told Expatmedia.net that the event will be held at AHDAAF Sports Club in Al Quoz.
Organisers said an estimated 2,500 spectators are expected to gather for the event from 8am to 8pm.
Groups will compete for the Sinulog Dance Parade and Dance Interpretation, with each contingent’s muse to vie for the Sinulog Festival Queen 2018 title. A photo competition will also run throughout the event.
Other activities in store include morning Zumba classes, games, face painting booths and food bazaars. Five finalists of the Sinulog Idol singing competition will also vie for the grand prize. ICA/Expat Media
