A blue moon, a supermoon and a total lunar eclipse will happen on January 31.

This only happens in 152 years, and you can watch it in the UAE!

DUBAI – A rare three-in-one lunar event, which happens every 152 years, is due on January 31 and it will be visible in the UAE.

The lunar trifecta or “super blue blood moon” combines three events at the same time: a blue moon, a supermoon and a total lunar eclipse.

So what can we expect to see?

Hassan Al Hariri, CEO of Dubai Astronomy Group, said that as the moon rises from the horizon, there will be a total eclipse. The moon will look reddish orange to dark red.

Al Hariri said that the total eclipse will only be visible for two minutes, but the supermoon will be visible the whole night.

The phenomenon may be viewed from anywhere beginning at 6.04pm in Dubai.

The Dubai Astronomy Group is also organising the “Super Moon Eclipse event” on January 31 at the Al Thuraya Astronomy Centre in Mushrif Park, which costs Dh20 per person.
