DUBAI – A 40-year-old Pakistani manager will be spending three months behind bars and then deported for molesting a 22-year-old Filipina jobseeker in his office.
The court heard that the woman had called up the Pakistani in June to inquire about a job that was advertised online.
The manager offered to pick her from from a metro station, saying that she will need to undergo a familiarisation visit and a job interview at his office in Business Bay.
The Filipina said that while in the car, the manager had touched her arm twice, and that when they finally reached his office, he grabbed her and hugged her.
“When we entered the office, he instantly groped me… he touched my waist and my posterior. He also asked me if I was married or had a boyfriend… he hugged me and groped me,” the woman testified, adding that she was “too scared to react”.
She thought of a plan to escape, telling the man that she needed to go to the bathroom before dashing out of the office.
She reported the incident to the police, who apprehended the Pakistani man.
On Wednesday, the Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the manager of molesting the woman. He has 15 days to appeal the ruling. DAJ/Expat Media
