Who is new Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters? We check out her twitter feed for a glimpse of the new beauty queen

DUBAI – Miss South Africa and model Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters beat 91 other contenders to win the coveted Miss Universe title on Sunday (Monday in UAE).

The 22-year-old beauty is the second Miss Universe winner from South Africa, following Miss Universe 1978 Margaret Gardiner.

Apart from the crown, the business management graduate is pocketing a year-long salary and will be staying for free at a luxury apartment in New York City for the duration of her reign.

We wonder if she’ll take this red 370Z along…

Nel-Peters was born on June 28, 1995 in Sedgefield, Western Cape. She’s very family-oriented and has said that her sister with special needs has been the most significant motivator in her life. She loves her mum, too!

Nel-Peters entered the pageant world by competing in Miss South Africa 2017. After taking the crown, she was given the right to represent South Africa in Miss Universe 2017.

She doesn’t take herself too seriously and knows how to have fun. Check out her pre-pageant face. Pen pineapple apple pen?

She’s athletic, too, finishing a 10km race in August with the poise of a beauty queen.

When she’s not checking out sports cars, she’s in one!

Of course she also finds time to glam up as well.

She’s a fashion influencer and has launched her own denim collection called Demi Denim.

She knows when to be serious, too. Women empowering projects? You can count her in. In September, she launched the #MissSAUnbreakable campaign. Nel-Peters said during a segment at Miss Universe that she wants to use her self-defence workshops to help as many women as she can.

No wonder she has captured so many hearts (and votes!)
