MANILA – A video of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte showing his softer side in front of world leaders by singing a love song has gone viral on social media.
At the gala of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit in Manila on Sunday, Duterte took the microphone to sing “Ikaw” (You) in a duet with local pop diva Pilita Corales.
Watch the video:
US President Donald Trump was among 19 leaders from China, Russia, India and other Asean member nations who attended the gala.
Duterte later said he “sang uninvited” upon Trump’s request. Trump and Duterte wore cream-coloured barongs, a traditional Philippine shirt made of fibre from the pineapple plant, hand-embroidered and worn untucked.
Singers and dancers also provided entertainment to the guests. They were served a four-course Filipino-Asian fusion meal prepared by Chef Jessie Sincioco, who also designed the menu for Pope Francis when he visited the Philippines in 2015. DAJ/Expat Media
